The class seven children were given a new, made up form of poetry which they tried out and then came up with some lovely poems. After this task, some created their own poems as a form of expression. Below are a few poems by some class seven children. Enjoy!
STAR by HANA PARKER
Shining, stunning star!
Shining as bright as a light,
Showing the path through the sky,
Wishing to travel through the night
TREES by CLAIRE DE VILLIERS
Tall, terrifying trees
Their leaves are like boats that float on a breeze,
Towering tall above us all
The towering trees sometimes wish they were small
COCONUTS by NATHANIEL RAUBENHEIMER
Coconuts are kind of cute,
They are like hard fruits.
From a tall palm tree,
In my mouth is where it longs to be.
BUTTERFLY by CAMERON KNIGHT
Beautiful, beloved butterfly
You are like a shining star in the
Night’s sky
As you flutter and shimmer,
You wish to become a part of the galaxy’s
Glimmer
WATER by STELA GERMOND
Wild, wishing, washing
It’s like blue clouds of water splashing
And swirling in the big sea,
As lovely as the clouds, as beautiful as the breeze,
Splashing on the shore and twinkling in the light,
I wish I could be there that night
RAIN by RUBY-ROSE CHADWICK
Rushing, rolling, rumbling rain
Like a giant jumping into a pool of water,
Giving life to all,
It wishes for people not to use it,
And wash it down the drain.
WINTER by TEBOHO MOKOENA
Winter is cold and wet,
Eating soup and bread
Cold as ice, thunder and lightning,
I wish that winter was over
COWS by EDAN BLOOM
Cows carry cloaks of cream
They are like milky dreams
Eating grass and mooing all day
And wish to shop at Pick n Pay
DEATH by HOMBISA NGXOXO
Dreaded, drowning, day
Death is like a new life
It takes your breath away
It wishes to destroy
RIVER by KADE WOLFF
Wild, whirling, weeping, water
It is as powerful as the wind,
It rushes down the mountainside so wild and free,
And the one thing it longs to find
Is the big wild sea
I WISH by LEO RUSSELL
I wish, I wish the world was not so full of pollution,
We all need to find a quick solution,
Agriculture has destroyed a vast piece of land,
All people think of is the next rand,
Stop the destruction before it gets worse,
Man needs to take control and not be a curse.
